Street of Dreams Showcase 2007
Earth & Sun is proud to have been chosen as the rammed earth contractor for the Street of Dreams luxury home show for the Spring show of 2007 in Oro Valley, Arizona. The street we worked on had 8 multimillion dollar homes being constructed. We were the the only home featuring rammed earth. La Tierra del Sol of Tucson is the general contractor for the project. Steve drove over to Las Cruces to visit with me and looked at the quality I do. By using my rammed earth processing machine and conveyor belt system we landed the job. Time was of the essence and we beat 3 local rammed earth contractors by months. Actual ramming and bond beam only took a little over a month.
We pulled out our equipment to allow the slab to go down and we came back in with the framing to sand blast and seal the walls. These walls are 3 foot thick at the bottom and taper to 2 feet at the top. 2 walls are 16' high and 2 are 18' high. The first 12 feet went fast as we stacked the gang forms on a temporary ledger board. We rammed again and also poured a colored bond beam at the top. Then we stripped the forming down and did the other 2 walls. The actual home will be framed from wall to wall with some of the rammed earth inside and some outside the home. Lights in the ground will wash the walls at night.
The last 8 photos are the rammed earth walls sandblasted, sealed, nicks repaired, and form bolt holes plugged. They have started framing the home and attached some walls to the rammed earth. The walls look splotchy because of the two day rainfall the day before. This was a cool project to be involved with. I will definitely go to the grand opening in the Spring of 2007.
